How to Treat Pain
Before we can treat pain effectively, we need to understand what type of pain your pet is experiencing, where it is coming from and how it is affecting their life.

Pain can be acute and chronic, inflammatory, neuropathic or even a combination of all types. Each type requires a different approach. By carefully assessing your pet's history, behaviour and physical condition, I can build a personalised treatment plan.
Treatment plans are likely to involve a combination of medication, acupuncture and physiotherapy. We will also take a look at diet, weight management, supplements and lifestyle. The goal is always the same - to reduce suffering and help you pet live more comfortably.

What to Expect

Initial Consultation
The first consultation is an extended session. This will give me a chance to get to know you and your pet, take a history and perform a thorough mobility and joint examination and pain assessment.
We can then discuss the features of pain that you pet is expericnig and come up with a plan to approach it. This will include how acupuncture can help
If it will be appropriate to use it right away, your pet will receive their first treatment, which is usually just a gentle introduction to acupuncture.
At the follow-up appointments
we will be a brief catch up on your pet's progress before we proceed with the next acupuncture treatment.
Follow-Up

It may also be necessary to repeat aspects of the exam so the plan can stay relevant for your pet. However the exam can be uncomfortable so will not be done every time.

We can also continue discussions on lifestyle and environmental management to keep on top of the problem at home.

Acupucture Only Service
If you are coming for an acupuncture only service the initial approach is the same, where we go over your pet's history, behaviour and physical condition. This information is then used to create the acupuncture treatment plan and know what key features of their condition can be used as measures of the success of the treatment.

However there are limitations on how much we will be able to discuss the other aspects of the manegement of chronic pain.

Clinic Days
I have a dedicated studio located at my home in Cawston, Rugby. Consultations are by appointment only. After an initial assessment session, which includes the first treatment, a minimum of three additional treatment sessions are recommended to see if acupuncture is helping your pet.

Home Visits
I appreciate that there are some scenarios where it is not easy or ideal to be transporting pets to a treatment session at the clinic. Home visits may therefore be possible.

Home visits are subject to availability. I will try my best but cannot guarantee that a home visit will be possible or will be available at your pets' normal treatment frequency.
